We are in the market for a new home and actually started our search today. We looked at two properties and how I wish they looked like these beauties. Do you go for the house of your dreams or the more practical house for the kids. The first house had everything inside I could wish for – high ceilings, claw foot bath, large cottage house with loads of character and even a sperate room under the house for either another bedroom or play room. My furniture would look amazing in this house and its an easy walk into town. The downside is the block is quite steep and the house is close to the road. The second home is on three acres very plain but has fully fenced paddocks, stables, sheds and even an above ground pool. The kids would love the space but it is not my dream home. I know the land is more practicle at the end of the day. Think we will have to sleep on this and weigh up whats more important. Do you go with you heart or your head?

I love both of these houses! It would be hard to pick one for sure! I would recommend listening to your head unless you have a ton of money! I bought an old house in Florida by listening to my heart and I'll be paying for it for the rest of my life! 🙂
I'm sure whatever home you buy will be gorgeous once you get your hands on it!

Ohhh,…I love the second picture,…the gray and white cottage!
But I agree with the last comment,…any place you choose is going to be marvelous after you get your hands on it, cuz you are one talented decorator!
Blessings!

Stop by today for "Wednesday's Walk down memory lane", where I posted some pictures of my family as we attended our nephew's wedding this past weekend in a little Nebraska town.

I'd have a heck of a time deciding between the two … I could always paint the grey/white one pink, then everything would be perfect. Which ever you decide on, it will be awesome when you decorate it. You have a beautiful elegant eye for decorating. TTFN ~Marydon

This is tough! Hmmm, house of dreams or practicality? Again, it's a toughie. But honestly, you have vision. you could make your house of dreams practical – two in one. Whatever you decide, your house will be beautiful! Take care.

Hi Sandy,
I have no doubt that whatever you decide, you will make it the home of your dreams. For me, I would go for the acreage because then I could have the garden of my dreams. The houses you posted today are so charming. Wouldn't I love to live in one of those?

I'd go for the land. You can always change the interior of a home but you can't get more land.
Start with the room that is most important to you and begin the change there. Then during your well deserved breaks, look out your windows and take in the wonder that is God all over your land.
i do like the pink one though I must confess but i'm far too sensible to not take the land.

Hi Sandy! How exciting, I love house hunting! My humble little opinion is to go for what suits your needs as a family right now. While the kids are still quite young, I would go with a home that suited them, if the kids were late teens and almost ready to fly the coop, then I'd go for the dream home. The kids are only little once, and when they've gone on to live their own lives, you and hubby can live as suits just the two of you then. Like I said, just my opinion. With your amazing sense of style though, I imagine that you could turn any humble abode into a palace! Best of luck…..

Hi Sandy, well I would have to say, go with your head. I was in the same situation as you 8 yrs ago. Do I buy I really nice house on 1 acre or a plainer house on 5 acres? The boys wanted motor bikes and Lisa a pony, 1 acre was not enough with the noise they would be making, so went for the larger land and have to say the kids have loved it. My house is nothing special but I truly believe a house is what you make it when you decorate it. It was a yukky garage green colour so since then we have painted it yellow with white trims, knocked down walls, added gardens and paving and it's getting there. This year we will be extending the house so I am really looking forward to that! I will be posting some pics soon on my blog once we start which should be in a few weeks. I know you would love the character filled house, as a part of me wishes my house had all those things too but at the end of the day I know my kids have had things they normally wouldn't have had on a normal block… food for thought! Have a great time looking for houses.. best wishes, Maryann

All I can say is that you will know it when you see it!

I don't envy you at all making a decision like this. I have lived in a small house for the last 11 years (currently building yeah!) but this small house with no room to move has driven me insane. The kids will grow up and move out any day and you'll be left with a house you don't like then have to move again….But, sometimes you have to think with your heart.

As the saying goes, "If Mom ain't happy, ain't nobody happy." I vote for follow your heart (after taking a good hard look to make SURE it's exactly what you want.)

What a touch decision….I think I would go for the acreage if you thought you could do some pretty things so the second one wouldn't look so plain to you. I actually think the second house is lovely..and acreage and padlocked yard?…I'd put in a claw tub and add extras and love it I'm sure.
but you need to be happy too..
have a great day and come by and visit some time
