Well its been six months now since I ripped up the old carpet and painted my concrete floors white. What sort of flooring to have in your home in sometimes not an easy choice. Ripping the carpet uf for me was an easy one as I could not live with the current blue carpet. But deciding what to put down instead – well that was something I could not decide on straight away. So in our lovely Queensland climate I opted for painting the concrete white. They are still going strong but have marked over time. I continually drag furniture across them so its no surprise that there are quite a few sctraches. I did only give them two light coats in the first place so they really could do with another coat just to fresh’n them up. Overall very easy to maintain with a vacuum and a steam mop.
I would love to eventually have floor boards in here but for now the concrete is very child & pet friendly and if there is a spill or a scratch its nothing that can’t be fixed.
I have sent all my rugs off to the cleaned so are looking forward to putting a nice rug back down here over the winter nights.
I am making progress on my little wardrobe makeover this week and hope to reveal the final look as soon as it stops raining. I am also making over a lovely sideboard/desk which is looking gorgeous.
Before shot of that blue carpet.

You know, I have been seriously thinking of ripping up my living room carpet and painting! Now that I've seen yours this is going to be my next project.. tell me.. did you have to sand or smooth the concrete? Your floor is wonderful! I have some really badly chipped Spanish terracotta tiles from the living room through out the entire downstairs.. wonder if I can paint them also?
Thanks for posting this.. you may have solved my problem..

Hi Sandy ~ love your concrete floors. They sure wouldn't be great where I live in Utah, but I can see how they'd be lovely there in Queensland. I love it there! (*_*)

That's great feedback. I was wondering how your floors were holding up. It seems like it was a good choice for you instead of the blue carpet.

I can't believe how dark that carpet made the room. The white floors are so much lighter and fresher and definitely a better match for all your gorgoues furniture Sandy.
Hope this rain stops soon. I drove through a lake outside Kings this morning!

Wow! Your right blue needed to go! Way to take a chance on those floors and paint them! It would be a great choice for kids and pets! They look great!

Your decor is beautiful. I absolutely love the painted concrete floor rather than the blue carpet – totally changed the atmosphere of the room.

Hi Sandy, what a great idea. The white floor looks so much better than the blue carpet. I agree with Ange in that it made the room quite dark. Have a great day.

Hi Sandy, my brother finally moved out of our granny flat late last year. The first thing I did was rip out the old carpet and paint the floor with cement paint (green). I had seen your wonderful floor makeover so I thought why not. Its a lot colder in this part of OZ, but it works fine with a little heater and a lovely floral mat. I actually painted some tiles with it too but wasn't a good idea as they scratch very easily. Just adds to the lived in charm, don't you think? So thanks for the inspirations, I will blog about our makeover some day soon too. Bye for now, Tamara

It looks great along with all the other prettiness in that room.
