AFTER
Chalk Paint™ we all know is a decorative furniture paint but the paint can do so many other things which just blows my mind.
I was given this lovely timber chair from a lady who thought I could do something with it.
She recently had it upholstered and was not happy with the fabric she had chosen. It was a blue denim and quite uninteresting. So instead of keeping something she no longer liked she ended up giving it away.
I thought this chair would be the perfect guinea pig to test out Chalk Paint™ on upholstery.
Annie Sloan demonstrates and writes about this technique in her new book “Colour Recipes”
I simply watered down Paris Grey for the first coat and applied with a normal brush. Left it to dry for an hour and then applied a second coat with no water just paint straight from the tin. The paint was easy to apply and soaked in well to the fabric.
Left the second coat to dry for an hour and then applied my stencil design. Lightly sanded – yes that’s right you can sand the fabric and then applied clear soft wax and buffed.
Chair is soft and ready for use.
So next time you think about changing the fabric on a chair, remember that you choices really are only limited by your imagination.

wow, that is brilliant, the chair is beautiful now! I can't wait to try some chalk paint… do you think it'll work on vinyl?

Wow is right! That's simply gorgeous, Sandy. I'm wondering how the painted fabric will wear–is there any chance that the paint or wax would rub off on clothing when in use?

Wow!
Beautiful.
