Transforming a Velvet Chair Using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint

Before Velvet Chair

I would normally not choose to paint velvet with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, reason being is that it normally requires the use of too much paint. However this time I wanted my chair to resemble a worn old leather chair.  I first sprayed the pink velvet with water and applied a water downed mix of Arles Chalk Paint.  Once the Arles was dry I worked in some Primer Red Chalk Paint being mindful not to cover the whole chair. Once I was happy with the coverage I let the chair completely dry overnight. I then applied my stencil using Graphite Chalk Paint by Annie Sloan. Sanded the whole chair in 240 grit sandpaper to smooth the whole chair and applied clear and dark wax. I played around with this chair quite a bit so I added some white wax to the timber frame to soften the timber. Over all I think I have achieved a worn out old looking chair.

This Project I used: One Sample Pot of Arles, One Sample Pot of Primer Red Chalk Paint, Clear & Dark Wax, white Wax.  240 Grit Sandpaper
